CORNUS KOUSA CHINENSIS - CHINESE DOGWOOD, 10 SEEDS

Characteristics: Tree with vigorous growth that can reach 7 meters in height, with spreading and drooping branches, with very large leaves and bracts without tufts on the lower surface. The Chinese Dogwood is spectacular during its flowering thanks to its white flowers formed by four pointed petals that surround the central part of a yellow-green color. The flowers are then followed by the fruits, red berries the size of a cherry that persist on the plant throughout the autumn. Also in autumn the dark green foliage becomes first reddish purple and then scarlet red. Tree that attracts butterflies and, in autumn, the smallest birds.

Cornus kousa are also called strawberry trees, because their fruits are similar to strawberries and the pulp, of a soft consistency which includes the seeds, is sweet and edible.

Soil: It prefers acidic sandy soils, organically rich, loose and well-drained. Exposure must be in full sun or partial shade, watering must be medium-high in the first period of life, then thinned out when the plant is mature. However, be careful of water stagnation that would cause the roots to rot.

Sowing: Winter stratification is useful. At the beginning of spring the seed should then be placed in fertile, slightly acidic soil mixed with peat and sand. Germination should occur within a few weeks.
