Description
Description
It is a medium-sized orchid, with a predominantly epiphytic behavior, but also terrestrial (geophytic). C. dayanum has very compressed pseudobulbs, ellipsoid in shape, wrapped at the base by rough sheaths, which carry from 5 to 12 sessile leaves, distichous, slightly leathery, narrowly lanceolate in shape, pointed at the apex, light green in color. Flowering normally occurs from summer to autumn, through a basal, racemose inflorescence, on average 25 centimeters long, erect and then drooping, carrying from 5 to 15 flowers. These are 4 to 5 centimeters large, not scented and have sepals larger than the petals, both whitish with a central dark red vein, and a trilobed labellum with raised lobes, dark red variegated with white
Distribution and habitat
C. dayanum grows in Asia, more precisely in the eastern Himalayas, the Indian states of Assam and Sikkim, Thailand, Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Borneo, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands and Japan, in evergreen forests at altitudes between 200 and 1800 metres above sea level.
