Description
Description
It is a medium-sized orchid, with epiphytic and occasionally geophytic behavior. C. devonianum has small ovoid pseudobulbs, wrapped by 5 or 6 rough bracts, bearing at their apex 2 to 4 leathery leaves, thick, with a petiole, with evident veins, oblong to lanceolate in shape, with an obtuse to subacute apex. Flowering normally occurs from spring to summer, through a basal, racemose inflorescence, 15 to 45 centimeters long, covered by rough, triangular bracts of purple color and bearing 15 to 25 flowers. These are 3 to 4.5 centimeters large, heavy in structure and long-lived, of variable color and have lanceolate sepals 2 of which are folded downwards, longer than the petals and a trilobed labellum with raised lobes
Distribution and habitat
C. devonianum grows in Asia, more precisely in the Himalayan chain, in the Indian state of Assam in Nepal, in Bhutan, as well as in Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, on trees of the montane rainforest (epiphyte) or rocks (lithophyte) covered with moss, at altitudes between 1000 and 2000 metres above sea level.
Cultivation
This species is best grown in pots containing fertile soil, with good availability of light, although not in direct sunlight, with cool temperatures and abundant humidity throughout the year. During flowering it is advisable to increase the temperature a little, provide fertilizer and water.
