Description
FICUS OBLIQUA - SMALL LEAVED FIG, 10 SEEDS
Ficus Obliqua, commonly known by its English name of Small-Leaved fig, is a tree belonging to the Moraceae family, native to eastern Australia, New Guinea and eastern Indonesia. Ficus Obliqua grows both on other plants (epiphyte) and in a peat substrate on rock (lithophyte). In nature it can reach a maximum height of 60 meters, with a crown extension almost as wide. The leaves are small, elliptical in shape, a beautiful intense green, very shiny. The trunk, light gray in color, creates very suggestive knotty formations as it grows and can reach a diameter of about 3 meters. The fruits, called syconium (actually inverted inflorescences, as with all species of ficus) are small and round, yellow in color that when ripe take on a beautiful intense red color. It bears fruit at any time of the year, with a peak of ripening from April to July. It prefers nutrient-rich, sandy and well-drained soils. The climate necessary for the correct growth and development of the Ficus Obliqua is temperate, warm-humid (subtropical rainforest). Propagation usually occurs from very small seeds, which germinate quite well, without the need for special pre-treatments. It is a tree much loved by many species of birds that are fond of its fruits. The Ficus Obliqua is grown for landscape purposes in parks and gardens, given the grandeur and beauty it enjoys. It is particularly suitable for growing in indoor pots in bonsai style.
GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
Fill a container with the peat mixture.
Sow the seeds on the surface of the mixture. Do not cover, the seeds need light to germinate. Always keep the soil moist.
Place the container outdoors in full sun or partial shade if temperatures are above 24/25 degrees. If temperatures are too low, keep the container indoors under artificial lights.
Keep the soil moist, do not let it dry out. Germination occurs between 15 and 90 days.
Transplant the seedlings into individual pots when the leaves are well developed.
