Description
PUNICA GRANATUM - POMEGRANATE, 10 SEEDS
Punica Granatum, commonly called Pomegranate, belongs to the Punicaceae family and has origins that are lost in the mists of time, in South West Asia and the Caucasus regions where it was cultivated since time immemorial. Since prehistoric times it has been present along the coasts of the Mediterranean, spread by the Phoenicians, Greeks and Arabs. Today, also thanks to its great resistance, it is cultivated in many regions of the world as it adapts well even to the most arid climates.
The Pomegranate is a small tree that rarely exceeds 3 meters in height, with a beautiful round crown, green in color often rich in a large number of fruits. The leaves are a beautiful intense green, opposite, shiny and elongated, the flowers are a bright red color, about 3 centimeters, with three or four petals, the fruit is a berry, called Balausta, also a beautiful red or yellow-brown color, of robust consistency, with hard and leathery skin, with a round or elongated shape and with dimensions that can reach 12 centimeters. The fruit has several internal partitions that act as placentation for the seeds, surrounded by an edible, sweet and fragrant pulp. The name Pomegranate derives from the Latin "malum = apple tree" "granatum = with seeds". Many cities have the Pomegranate fruit as a symbol in their coat of arms, a symbol of prosperity, longevity and health.
The pomegranate can be used both for ornamental purposes, for the beauty of its flowers and fruits, and for food purposes, for the fruits or for the preparation of juices, sauces, decoctions or infusions.
