Olea europaea seeds have fairly waterproof endocarp and teguments while the embryo is dormant. Removing dormancy requires many months of chilling (cold stratification). Proceed initially by immersing the seeds in water for 24/48 hours. Remove the seeds and place them in damp sand or between two layers of damp cotton. Close in a plastic bag and place in the refrigerator for the appropriate amount of time. Stop immediately when the first symptoms of germination appear and periodically check the humidity level, always ensuring a certain degree of wetting. The sowing substrate is the classic soil for sowing (rich in peat) or alternatively you can use akadama and pumice in equal percentages.
