The plant comes from the island of Madagascar and the southern areas of India, where it grows almost everywhere. Vinca is a vigorous plant: it is easy to have it still in bloom at the beginning of autumn. The flowers are perfect for summer planters: composed of 5 delicate and light petals like butterfly wings, they can be of many colors, often have the central "heart" of a different color than the petals and the color of the flowers stands out on the beautiful bright green foliage.

The beauty of the petals remains even on the hottest and most sultry days (if the plants are well watered).

GROWING PERIWINKLE
Vinca is a very resistant and undemanding plant, it also accepts sunny exposures and does not fear the heat even if, like all plants, it slows down flowering in the hottest periods to resume vigorously after mid-August. It does not resist frost: it can survive the winter only on terraces and gardens in areas with a mild climate and along the southern coasts.

It requires regular watering but not excessively (be careful of unabsorbed water in the saucer), generally every 2-3 days if the plant is in full sun and if the soil has dried out.

Withered flowers and dry leaves should be cut at the base. Do not leave dry leaves on the ground around the plant, they may contain spores of fungal diseases.
