Pasilla means "little grape" in Spanish, referring to its dark brown color and raisin-like aroma. The dried fruit is often used in Mexican sauces. Green chiles are also used in a dish called Chilaca. They range in color from dark green to dark brown almost black when ripe and can grow to over 20 cm.

For good germination, maintain a constant temperature of 28 - 30 degrees.
