Cultivation
Crimson Sweet Watermelon thrives in warm climates with plenty of sun. Follow these simple steps for a bumper crop:
Sowing: Sow directly in the open ground from April to June, when there is no risk of frost and the soil temperature is consistently above 20°C. Alternatively, you can start sowing in a seedbed 3-4 weeks before the last frost. Plant the seeds about 2-3 cm deep, keeping a distance of at least 1.5-2 meters between plants to allow for climbing growth.
Soil: It prefers rich, well-drained soil with a good supply of organic matter.
Exposure: Requires full sun for at least 6-8 hours a day to develop sweet, full fruits.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruit development. Avoid waterlogging.
Care: Fertilize regularly with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season. To protect the fruit from direct contact with the soil, you can place straw or supports underneath them.
Harvest: Watermelons are ready for harvest about 80-90 days after planting. A ripe watermelon will sound hollow when tapped, have a creamy-yellow undertone where it touches the ground, and the tendrils closest to the fruit will begin to dry out. Harvest from July to September.
