Characteristics
Small, delicate leaves: Perfect for a traditional Ligurian pesto and for garnishing dishes.
Intense and persistent aroma: It releases an unmistakable scent that enriches every recipe.
Compact plant: Ideal for growing in pots, on balconies or in small vegetable beds.
Easy to grow: Suitable even for beginners, it requires minimal care and offers great satisfaction.
Non-GMO: High-quality, non-genetically modified seeds for natural and conscious cultivation.
High germination: Ensures a high success rate in sowing.
Cultivation
Sowing: We recommend sowing in spring, between March and June. You can start in a seedbed and then transplant the seedlings, or sow directly in the ground when outdoor temperatures are stable and mild (at least 15-20°C). Sow the seeds about 0.5 cm deep, keeping a distance of 20-30 cm between plants to allow for good aeration.
Location: Basil prefers full sun or bright partial shade. Make sure it gets at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight a day for optimal aroma.
Watering: Requires consistently moist soil, but without waterlogging. Water regularly, especially during the hottest periods, preferably early in the morning or evening.
Care: To encourage lush growth and prolonged leaf production, regularly pinch the plant's tips, removing flowers as soon as they appear. This prevents bolting and stimulates new leaf production.
Harvesting: The leaves can be harvested about 30-40 days after sowing, when the plant has reached a sufficient height. Pick the outer leaves or pinch the tips to encourage lateral growth. Use fresh basil to enhance flavors or make a delicious pesto to preserve its aroma.
