Cultivation
The Texas Early Grano onion prefers well-drained, fertile soil and full sun. Sowing can be done directly in the open field or in a seedbed and then transplanting the seedlings.
Sowing: Sow in spring (March-April) for a summer harvest. You can also sow in fall in mild climates for a spring harvest. The ideal temperatures for germination are between 15°C and 25°C.
Soil: Prefers loose, well-drained soil, rich in organic matter. Avoid waterlogging.
Spacing: Sow about 1-2 cm deep, keeping a distance of 10-15 cm between plants and 30 cm between rows.
Watering: Requires moderate, constant watering, especially during the early stages of growth and during periods of drought. Avoid overwatering to prevent fungal diseases.
Care: Keep the area free of weeds and monitor for pest attacks.
Harvesting: The bulbs are ready for harvest when the leaves begin to turn yellow and dry, curling toward the ground, usually between June and July. Leave them to air dry in a shaded, ventilated place for a few days before storing them.
