Cultivation
May Queen lettuce is remarkably easy to grow. Here are some tips for a great harvest:
Sowing: You can sow from March to June. For optimal growth, sow directly into the ground or in a seedbed, at a depth of about 0.5-1 cm, keeping a distance of 20-30 cm between plants after thinning.
Soil: It prefers fertile, well-drained soils rich in organic matter.
Exposure: Choose an area with full sun or partial shade, especially in warmer regions to prevent the plants from going to seed too quickly.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging. Regular, moderate watering is essential to prevent bitter leaves.
Care: After the seedlings emerge, thin out to leave enough room for the shoots to grow. Clear away weeds regularly.
Harvest: Harvesting can begin about 60-70 days after planting, when the leaves are well-formed and compact. Cut the entire plant at the base or harvest the outer leaves as they grow to prolong production.
