Technical details:
Botanical name: Lithops coleorum
Seed quantity: 10 seeds, guaranteed for high germination.
Plant Type and Cultivation Cycle: A very slow-growing perennial succulent, part of the Aizoaceae family. The plant adapts perfectly to extremely dry conditions, developing a well-defined growth and dormancy cycle based on irrigation.
Plant height: Typically remains very low, emerging from the substrate by only 2-3 cm.
Uses: Ideal for ornamental potting, open terrariums, indoor rock gardens, minimalist arrangements, and as a standout in succulent collections. It has no culinary or medicinal uses.
Appearance: The plant consists of two fused, fleshy leaves without visible stems, forming a compact body. The upper surface is often flat or slightly convex, with intricate patterns, spots, and translucent "windows" that allow light to penetrate the leaf. Flowering typically occurs in autumn, with the emergence of small, daisy-like flowers, yellow or white, emerging from the central crevice between the leaves.
Hardiness and Origin: Native to the desert regions of southern Africa, they are extremely drought- and heat-resistant. They require protection from frost and excessive humidity.
Sowing period: Sowing is recommended in spring or early summer, when temperatures are stable and remain between 20°C and 25°C.
Optimal germination conditions: Requires a very well-drained and sterilized substrate (e.g., 50% fine pumice, 50% cactus soil), constant but not excessive humidity during the initial stage (cover with plastic wrap to maintain humidity), and indirect but very bright light. Maintaining a stable temperature is crucial.
Soil type: A specific substrate for cacti and succulents is essential, with a very high mineral content (pumice, lapilli, coarse sand) to ensure excellent drainage and prevent waterlogging. The ideal pH is neutral or slightly acidic.
Recommended exposure: Full sun or bright partial shade. It's essential to provide plenty of light to prevent etiolation, but protect the plants from the strongest direct sun during the midsummer hours, especially the seedlings.
Germination times: Variable, generally from 7 days to several weeks, with some germinations occurring even later. Patience is a virtue when growing Lithops from seed.
Pot or open ground cultivation: Practically exclusive to pot cultivation, given their compact root system and the need for rigorous control over the substrate and irrigation regime, which would be almost impossible to manage in open ground outside their natural habitat.
Quality Specifications: Our quality Non-GMO seeds are of selected varieties and tested to ensure high germination, providing the best foundation for your future plants.
