Description
Discover the mimetic beauty and resilience of Lithops meyeri, the fascinating "living stones" of the desert, now available as high-germination seeds. This product is ideal for succulent enthusiasts, botanical collectors, and gardeners eager to explore new challenges or enrich their collection with rare and spectacular species. Our seeds come from a select variety and are guaranteed non-GMO, ensuring the authenticity and genetic purity of the species. Lithops meyeri is distinguished by its fleshy, pebble-like leaves, ranging in color from gray-green to pinkish-brown, and a translucent "window" at the tip, creating extraordinary camouflage that makes it a gem in any environment.
Botanical name: Lithops meyeri
Seed Quantity: 10 seeds per pack
Plant type and cultivation cycle: Perennial succulent, very slow growing, belonging to the Aizoaceae family.
Plant height: Extremely low, generally 1-3 cm in diameter per rosette. The plant remains almost level with the ground.
Uses: Ornamental only. Perfect for terrariums, succulent arrangements, indoor rock gardens, or in protected desert climates. Not suitable for culinary, medicinal, or aromatic uses.
Organoleptic characteristics: The "leaves" are actually fused, bicolored bodies, with a flat or slightly convex upper surface featuring translucent windows. These allow light to reach the internal photosynthetic tissues, a surprising adaptation to desert life. It produces solitary flowers, usually yellow or white, which emerge from the central crevice between the leaves.
Hardiness and Origin: Native to the arid regions of South Africa and Namibia. Requires complete protection from frost and minimum temperatures above 10°C. Extremely drought-resistant.
Sowing period: Ideal in spring (March-May) or early summer to take advantage of the warm temperatures, but possible all year round in a controlled environment with adequate light and heat.
Optimal conditions for germination: Constant temperature between 20-25°C, high initial humidity (cover the seed tray), indirect but bright and constant light.
Soil type: Requires an extremely well-draining substrate, specifically for cacti and succulents, with a high percentage of aggregates (pumice, volcanic lapilli, coarse sand) and a minimal amount of organic soil (maximum 10-20%). The pH should be neutral or slightly acidic.
Recommended exposure: Full sun for several hours a day. In summer, during the hottest hours of the day, it is advisable to provide light shade to prevent sunburn. It requires plenty of light to maintain its color and compact shape.
Germination times: Variable, from 7 days to 4 weeks, sometimes even longer, depending on environmental conditions and the freshness of the seeds.
Pot or ground cultivation: Easy cultivation is guaranteed in pots, preferably in shallow, wide containers to encourage root development. Open ground cultivation is not recommended unless you live in a hot, dry desert climate protected from rain.
Quality Specifications: Non-GMO seeds, carefully selected to ensure varietal purity and high germination, allowing even the less experienced to start their cultivation successfully.
