Technical details:
Botanical name: Pachypodium bispinosum
Seed quantity: 10 high quality seeds
Plant type: Perennial caudiciform succulent, characterised by a swollen basal stem (caudex) which acts as a water reserve.
Crop cycle: Perennial. The plant slowly develops its caudex over the years.
Plant height: In natural conditions it can reach 60 cm, while in cultivation and in pots it usually remains between 20 and 40 cm, developing a more compact appearance.
Uses: Ideal as an ornamental collectible, a single specimen for rock gardens (in suitable climates), or as a protagonist in potted succulent compositions.
Organoleptic characteristics: It has a thick, often semi-buried caudex covered with paired spines. The thin, often branched branches bear deciduous, lanceolate leaves during the dry season. The flowers are small, tubular, ranging in color from pink-purple to pale cream, and bloom in spring and summer.
Hardiness and Origin: Native to South Africa (Eastern Cape), it is a robust and drought-resistant plant. It requires protection from frost.
Sowing period: Preferably in spring or early summer, when temperatures are constant and warm, favoring optimal germination.
Optimal germination conditions: Requires a constant temperature between 25°C and 30°C, high humidity, and indirect but bright light. A heating mat and a clear cover are recommended to maintain humidity.
Soil type: Requires an extremely well-drained substrate, specific for cacti and succulents, composed of a mixture of potting soil, pumice, perlite or fine gravel.
Recommended exposure: Full sun or very bright partial shade for mature plants. Seedlings benefit from bright, indirect light.
Germination time: Variable, from 1 week to several months. Under ideal conditions, the first seedlings can emerge in 2-4 weeks, thanks to the high germination rate of our seeds.
Pot or ground cultivation: It is perfect for growing in pots, where its caudex can be enhanced. In Mediterranean or subtropical climates, it can be grown in the ground in sheltered locations.
Quality Specifications: These rare plant seeds are Non-GMO and come from a selected variety to ensure authenticity and seedling vigor, offering a satisfying growing experience.
