Strawberry refers to the fruits (in reality it is an aggregate fruit) of plants of the Fragaria genus to which many different species belong.
This term is commonly used to refer to the edible part of the plant: even if strawberries are considered fruits from a nutritional point of view, they are not from a botanical point of view: the actual fruits are the so-called alkenes, that is, the yellow seeds that can be seen on the surface of the strawberry. The strawberry is considered an aggregate fruit because it is nothing more than the enlarged receptacle of an inflorescence, usually positioned on a special stem.
The plant, outside of the reproductive system, has non-sexual multiplication systems, such as the stolon, a rooting lateral branching by which it can produce new tufts that are in fact clones of the same individual plant. Strawberries commonly grown today are hybrids resulting from the crossing of European and American varieties.
The peculiarity of this strawberry is that it has a purple color tending towards black, despite its very sweet flavor and even lower acidity than classic strawberries.
Soil and climate: it grows in any soil, better if leaf-soiled and in any climate, tolerates shade, but likes the sun, the fruits are more fragrant and sweet in cold climate areas
Amount of water required: they do not require much water and are afraid of humidity
Sowing: sowing should be done in a seedbed or in any case in a protected environment at the end of summer to have a good harvest the following spring. If done in spring, with a dry summer climate, the harvest will be in autumn.
Cultural care: mulching is useful to prevent the spread of weeds between the flowerbeds and to control any snails; any birds can be kept away by placing a net over the flowerbed.
Harvesting: remove the strawberry with the stalk intact to preserve vitamins and nutrients
Easy germination, no experience required
